Chances are, you’ve heard about The Queen’s Gambit – a Netflix series about a female chess player.
You may have also heard that it’s sparked an interest in the game.
In fact, lichess – the #1 online chess site – has seen a 27% increase in players since the series debuted.
So what’s this got to do with copywriting?
Well, it’s a classic example of the copywriting adage “Show, don’t tell.”
At no point in the series did it TELL you chess is fun. At no point did it lay out all the REASONS you should play.
Instead, it SHOWED you young people enjoying the game… and let your imagination wonder whether you might enjoy it, too.
And that’s why it was so persuasive.
All the best,
Steve Gibson
